Convincing my Cousin to read Alexie's book -- The Absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian

How you been, how’s school?  Have you read any interesting book in your English class yet?  You know I have read a few interesting books that I would like to share with you and in fact, the main character is around your age too! It’s called, “The Absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian”. I know it doesn’t sound interesting but just try to read the first 3 pages and you’d find yourself hook into it, trust me.  It’s basically about a special young Indian boy who wanted to stand out and be known for his existence in the world. The book itself is very easy to read and understand. It also contains drawing which I know would have a huge interest on your part since you like drawing cartoons. The drawings are quite funny too and very straight to the point.

There are also interesting points and phrases that would motivates you to keep on reading , and find more about what will happen next and so on. Like when Junior, the main character said, “it sucks to be poor, it sucks to feel that you deserve to be poor”, he said this phrases as if he’d understand poverty and for his age, he knows enough.  It was moments after, his dog had been put down for being sick and he had to just take it in. When you read this book you’ll learn more about how everyone aren’t treated the same and how lucky you are to have those extra toys and consoles to meddle with. And you’ll learn to appreciate more of your parents love and nurture they given you. Trust me, you’ll love it.

Comments on Sample papers of Alexie Novel

I find sample paper 2 interesting because s/he talked about the novel in a much wider perspective of the readers and how the author wants his reader to analyze the different scenarios of the book. Though I personally find that they did not use any citation from the book but rather a good explanation of each situation and its importance. I personally think this is a draft of one of the other papers since it does not seem complete without and quotations that would support their points. Even though, I find this much easier to understand and it also explained  a better picture of Junior's hardships and how he never gave up no matter what.

Class discussion from last week

Obama's State of the Union speech was really appealing to all Americans. He stated many of the concerns that has a huge effect towards the society. Such as increasing minimum wage, which is the most concerned issue in our today's society. Every single Americans are working their asses off in order to maintain a suitable living yet they are only getting the minimum wage off it. The President proves that he will not stop until he can change the issue for every hard-working American citizens.

He believed that with his power and the help of every citizens, he can make this nation achieve a better purpose for the society's concerns. On his speech he also stated, ".. I offer tonight is a set of concrete, practical proposals to speed up growth, strengthen the middle class, and build new ladders of opportunity into the middle class -- So wherever and whenever I can take steps without legislation to expand opportunity for more American families, that’s what I’m going to do." This statement helped him proved that for the past years the Congress has done no actions about the nations concerns, and with or without their support he will keep moving forward, showing the importance of his role as a President, being the executive branch. He took a stand before the Congress, emphasizing his Presidential duties. And with the help of all citizens, we can all make it happen.
